Building a stronger foundation for girls in highland communities

As the academic year 2026 – 2027 begins, the PennSchool community will once again accompany the “Light Up the Future” Community Fund to implement the “A Home for Learning – Empowering Highland Girls” project, helping create a safe place to stay where students can feel secure as they continue their studies.

Huoi Mot Commune, Son La Province, is a mountainous border area where the majority of the population are ethnic minority communities. For some students living in remote villages, the journey to school can be as long as 50 kilometers. Given this distance, having a safe and stable place to stay near school can make it easier for students to travel, rest, and study, while also giving them better conditions to remain engaged in their education.

In response to this practical need, the “A Home for Learning – Empowering Highland Girls” project is being implemented in Pa Cong Village, Huoi Mot Commune, as part of a three-story boarding facility with a total floor area of 741.6 m². During the academic year 2026 – 2027, the PennSchool community’s “Light Up the Future” Community Fund will contribute to the completion of the third floor, covering an area of 247.2 m², for female students to live and study. This space was built to support the accommodation and learning needs of female students while they are away from their families, providing them with more stable living conditions throughout their time at school.

Behind the numbers that reflect the scale of the project is a simple wish shared by the PennSchool community: to help create more comfortable conditions for the girls to live and study. Every contribution not only helps complete part of the project, but also represents our continued support in helping these students stay in school and gradually build their own futures.
