DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Overview
As a Physical Education and Health Teacher within the International Program at PennSchool,
you will lead an instructional program for students in Grades 1–12. You will be responsible
for fostering physical literacy and wellness while serving as a visible role model for our core
values of Respect and Integrity.

  • Curriculum & Standards: Deliver high-quality instruction aligned with the Pennsylvania (PA) State Standards for Health, Safety, and Physical Education.
  • Instructional Split: Manage a teaching load consisting of 80% Physical Education and 20% Health Education; at the High School level, Health is taught as a standalone classroom unit.
  • Aquatics Instruction: Lead and supervise swimming activities as part of the core PE curriculum. Candidates should have prior experience teaching or coaching swimming.
  • Safety & Certification: Maintain a valid CPR and First Aid certification (required) to ensure the highest level of safety during all physical activities, particularly in the aquatic center.
  • Campus Coordination & Travel:
    – This position serves the International Program across both our District 5 and District 10 campuses.
    – While we aim to minimize transitions, travel between sites may occur up to once per day.
    – To accommodate the commute, the school provides a reduced overall class load and a parking stipend.

     

  • Resource Management: Collaborate with the PHE Department and the designated coordinator to organize and record court times and maintain gym equipment.

     

  • Assessment & Reporting: Systematically monitor student achievement against targets and prepare accurate, helpful reports for parents in accordance with school policy.
  • Student Wellbeing: Proactively manage student behavior using positive strategies to build a respectful and responsible classroom culture.
  • Extracurricular Engagement: There are additional opportunities to participate in after- school sports coaching and student clubs.
  • Professional Conduct: Maintain an accurate register for each lesson and cover for absent colleagues when necessary to ensure consistent instructional practices.

WORKING HOUR

40 hours per week (7:30 – 16:30) from Monday to Friday.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Professional Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a relevant field.
  • Certification: Must hold a valid teaching license or certification and a current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Standards: Familiarity with US educational standards, specifically the ability to align instruction with Pennsylvania (PA) State Standards. Experience & Skills
  • Aquatics: Prior experience teaching or coaching swimming is required.
  • Differentiation: Ability to adapt learning experiences to meet the diverse needs of students from Grades 1–12.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
  • Coaching: Proven background in sports to effectively serve as a faculty advisor or coach for school teams.

Physical & Operational Expectations

  • Active Status: Must be physically fit to lead multiple indoor and outdoor classes and activities across the school day.
  • Campus Mobility: Willingness to travel between District 5 and District 10 campuses up to once per day to support the International Program.
  • Organization: Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of all gym and pool equipment.
