Excitement, gratitude, pride, and appreciation are the emotions felt by Team 350 when successfully conquering the Cria Top Team category at the Global Round of the 2023 World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) Competition. Meet these outstanding “scholars” from PennSchool through the following sections:
How did you feel as you embarked on your journey to compete in the WSC competition?
Minh Nhat: At the beginning of 2023, PennSchool encouraged us to participate in this annual international academic competition. After thorough research, I felt very excited and quickly seized the opportunity to meet many outstanding scholars from around the world.
Trong Toan: This competition was challenging, and I was completely immersed in this intense competition throughout my 7-day vacation.
Gia Khang: I am very grateful to my mother, who accompanied me throughout the journey to participate in the competition in Bangkok. Furthermore, I want to express my gratitude to my teammates for their encouragement and support when I decided to participate in this competition.
For you, what was the most memorable event at the Global Round of the WSC competition?
Minh Nhat: I will never forget the “Scavenger Hunt,” the first event in the competition. During this event, I collaborated with 8 scholars from different countries to carry out tasks set by the organizers. Despite having just met, we quickly connected and discussed the group tasks. Additionally, I played soccer with students from different countries. Despite our differences in language and skin color, we came together as one in this competition.
Trong Toan: I really enjoyed participating in the “Scavenger Hunt” because it provided me an opportunity to socialize and collaborate with many fellow scholars from around the world. Luckily, I won 4 silver medals in this event. I felt ecstatic and happy with these unforgettable experiences in Bangkok.
Gia Khang: The competition organized a variety of events and provided delicious food in the evening. Among them, the “Scholars Ball” allowed us to dance and experience various cultural booths with different traditional dishes and activities from each country. Among them, I particularly liked the Australian booth because it had a variety of foods and souvenirs. I received a large gray stuffed camel as a souvenir.
Could you share your achievements as the Cria Top Team?
Minh Nhat: At the beginning of the Global Round, I felt nervous and had headaches during the Scholar’s Challenge. However, I made every effort to perform my best. Being one of the youngest scholars at this competition, my teammates and I were very proud to be recognized for the Cria Top Team, and we cherished every moment when we received a silver medal for the writing competition and a gold medal for the debating competition.
Trong Toan: The experiences we encountered at the competition and the Cria Top Team award are significant sources of encouragement for me.
Gia Khang: I am pleased to announce that I have won three medals in the Cria Student category and three medals for the debate competition. WSC provided me with a great opportunity to showcase my skills and communicate with many scholars from different countries, such as Kenya, India, and Australia.
What message do you want to convey to yourselves?
Minh Nhat: I am very grateful for the valuable experiences that the 2023 World Scholar’s Cup has brought me and for the recommendation from PennSchool that allowed me to participate in this competition. I am proud to be one of the scholars at this School.
Trong Toan: I am sure that I will continue to study diligently and prepare better for the upcoming competitions, aiming to achieve even greater accomplishments in the future.
Gia Khang: I would be very happy to have the opportunity to participate in this competition again.
These are the emotional and proud statements of Team 350 after returning from the Global Round of the 2023 World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) Competition. It is certain that the achievements of these talented scholars will inspire other #HomeOfTheEagles to continue their efforts in studying and honing their skills, confidently conquering academic competitions across the country and abroad.
