Letter from the Board of Principals

As the year winds down and December ushers in a season of reflection and celebration at PennSchool, we turn our focus to a value integral to our community: Equity. I am inspired to see how our school’s mission and vision resonate through our commitment to this fundamental principle.

In line with our mission to offer a high-quality, culturally rich academic experience, equity at PennSchool is about providing every student with the opportunities and support necessary to flourish. It’s about embracing and celebrating our diverse backgrounds, ensuring that our differences are not just acknowledged but are the cornerstone of our collective strength. Our vision to nurture individuals who are intellectually curious, empathetic, and adaptable in different cultural settings is deeply rooted in the ethos of equity.

This December, our students have vividly demonstrated their understanding and commitment to equity. A standout example was their involvement with Laws for Paws. Our dedicated students spent a Saturday at the animal shelter in District 2, generously donating food and money raised through their hard work, caring for, and spending time with the animals. This initiative exemplifies our educational philosophy – learning through compassionate action, understanding responsibility, and practicing empathy towards all beings.

Our high school students delved into the life and teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. this month in their ELA classes, a fitting exploration as we discuss equity. Studying MLK’s philosophy and actions provided our students with profound insights into the struggles and triumphs in the pursuit of equity and justice. This learning experience was an invaluable part of their journey towards understanding and advocating for equity in all spheres of life.

These experiences not only align with our vision of fostering globally-minded citizens but also imbue in our students a sense of responsibility towards creating a more equitable world. In these actions, they learn the importance of kindness and inclusivity in building a harmonious society.

As we approach the end of the term, I also want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication shown by our students during their exams. The holiday season is a perfect opportunity to take a well-deserved break and recharge. I encourage our students to use this time to relax, rejuvenate, and spend quality time with family and friends. This period of rest is crucial for maintaining a healthy balance between academic pursuits and personal well-being.

In conclusion, as we celebrate this festive month, let us remember to carry the spirit of equity into our lives beyond PennSchool. Let’s continue to inspire and be inspired, challenging inequities and fostering a world where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Wishing the entire PennSchool community a joyful, restful, and rejuvenating holiday season.

Warm regards,

Mr. Timothy Nelson – AP Principal
