With the aim of providing opportunities for students to interact and learn with international friends, enhance language skills, and actively engage with diverse cultures worldwide, PennSchool collaborated with the Bourne End Academy (UK) to organize the Vietnam – UK Cultural Exchange with the theme “A Splash of Cultures” on March 21 & 22, 2024.
Although the event lasted only 2 days, students from both schools had a meaningful time together, engaging in academic activities, sports, and exploring Vietnam’s distinctive cuisine.
The impressive introduction and bonding games at the welcoming event helped students from both schools bridge the gap and gain valuable insights into the upcoming program activities. In addition to exploring the learning environment at PennSchool, British students had the opportunity to learn more about the experiences of PennSchool students in particular and Vietnamese students in general through classes in Technology, Social Studies, Arts, and Physical Education.
The event became even more exciting as members of the Student Council had the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills by assisting in various stages of preparation, brainstorming ideas, and welcoming lovely guests. The Student Council also came up with the idea to organize a small fair and introduce Bourne End Academy students to a trendy Gen Z drink called Milo milkshake with coconut jelly.
Another activity that attracted many British students and left a profound impression was the exploration of Vietnamese cuisine through workshops on making “banh mi” and “banh hoa mai.” This activity provided an opportunity for #HomeOfTheEagles to introduce their international friends to some typical Vietnamese food, thus promoting understanding and respect among different cultures.
Concluding the Vietnam – UK Cultural Exchange event, the PennSchool community didn’t forget to send farewell gifts and warm hugs to their British friends, marking not just a goodbye but also the beginning of special friendships – cross-national friendships.
As the initial purpose, the Vietnam – UK Cultural Exchange event truly created an avenue for students to share and integrate into diverse cultures worldwide.
