This October, the PennSchool community is buzzing with energy and excitement as a series of competitions and activities kick off for #HomeOfTheEagles at all grade levels.
Highlighted events this month include Rounds 1 & 2 (Class Level and Grade Level) of the Spelling Bee Competition, the Broadcasting Project, and the Final Round of the House Captain elections, which provide invaluable opportunities for students to showcase their talents, creativity, and leadership in various fields.
In the Spelling Bee Competition 2024 – 2025 with the theme “Spelling the Past, Mapping the Future”, #HomeOfTheEagles from Grades 1 – 8 demonstrated their extensive English vocabulary and excellent memory skills by swiftly responding to the keywords given by the Judges. Following these rounds, the top 5 #HomeOfTheEagles from each grade level were selected to advance to the Final Round, scheduled to take place from November 4 to 8.
The Broadcasting Project, offering the chance for students to become editors, broadcasters, or sound technicians for PennSchool’s radio programs, attracted hundreds of students. Following the Application Round and the Kick-off event, where the roles and responsibilities of each position were introduced, the first broadcast, meticulously prepared by the volunteers, officially aired. The Broadcasting Project allows #HomeOfTheEagles to engage in the professional news production process and collaborate with the School to update the latest news for the PennSchool community. Additionally, it provides a platform for students to develop skills and gain initial experience in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or Broadcasting.
PennSchool not only encourages students to express and develop their leadership roles through diverse activities but also provides exciting experiences by taking on key positions to represent the student community, including the role of House Captains and House Vice Captains. After the application period and voting by fellow House members, 16 outstanding #HomeOfTheEagles were selected. As leaders, House Captains and Vice Captains will have the opportunity to plan events and lead community activities, developing a sense of responsibility and important soft skills like teamwork, time management, and problem-solving. This experience also serves as an excellent stepping stone for students aspiring to become future leaders.
#HomeOfTheEagles have showcased their talents across various fields, including academics, arts, sports, and so on. Each competition and activity provides enriching experiences that help them build confidence in asserting themselves.
