[We are still Eagles] Growing up surrounded by love

Every journey of growth carries its own unique milestones, especially when that journey is nurtured and guided by a community filled with love. For many students, their high school years are not just about classes, but also a journey of self-discovery, building friendships, and learning to grow under the guidance of their teachers.

For Nguyen Ngoc Quynh Nhu, a PennSchool alumna, those memories remain vivid – filled with love and gratitude for the school that nurtured her through some of the most beautiful years of her life.

“Beginning a new chapter is never easy, especially when it means stepping into a place full of unfamiliar faces and experiences. Remembering those days at PennSchool, I realize that High School is more than just academics.

I still remember my first day at PennSchool in Grade 10 as if it were yesterday. It marked the beginning of a completely new journey for me. That morning was beautiful, yet a little chaotic because I almost arrived late for class. Most of the students had already taken their seats, so I randomly picked a spot and sat alone. At first, it was a bit intimidating, and it took me some time to feel comfortable and get to know my classmates. But looking back, I realize that those first moments of uncertainty were just the beginning of some of the most memorable experiences of my life.”

Alongside the most beautiful stories of school days and unforgettable memories with friends, each student grows a little more every day thanks to the quiet guidance of their teachers – those who silently inspire and support them on their learning journey. For Quynh Nhu, that special role was played by Ms. My Kim, her Grade 10 Homeroom Teacher.

“What makes my High School experience truly exceptional is not just the academic programs or extracurricular activities, but the supportive school environment and the dedicated teachers who shaped my journey. From the very first day, my teachers mentored me patiently, helping me adjust to my new school and discover my potential.

A special thanks to my Homeroom Teacher in Grade 10, Ms. My Kim, not just for teaching me but also for listening to my concerns and being a guiding light during the moments I felt lost or unsure. I first met her in Grade 9 as my Mathematics teacher, so I was both surprised and nervous to learn that she would be my Homeroom Teacher the following year. My initial impression of her was firm but fair, just as I expected, but later on, I understood how much she was supporting the entire class at once.

By the second semester, we had developed a strong bond – close enough that I felt comfortable sharing anything with her. She was always right behind us whenever we needed her guidance. Even in Grades 11 – 12, she continued to support us. Her kindness, patience, and insight made it easy for me to connect with her, and I always felt that we truly “clicked,” almost as if we were the same person. The high school experiences we shared will remain safely kept in my memory for all their worth.

Reflecting on those moments – from awkward beginnings to challenging classes, and the warmth of my friends and teacher – are things I will always treasure. They have not only shaped my high school experience but also helped mold who I am today and have equipped me to take on a new journey in Melbourne, Australia.”

On the occasion of PennSchool’s 5th anniversary, Quynh Nhu also sent her heartfelt wishes to the school that has nurtured her dreams and accompanied her in growing confidently on her journey.

“On the occasion of PennSchool reaching its meaningful 5-year milestone, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the School. Five years may not be a very long time, but it is enough to shape a remarkable journey – one where every student, including myself, has found opportunities to grow, explore, and confidently step into the world.

I hope that the teachers at PennSchool will continue to uphold the enthusiasm, dedication, and inspiring environment that you have always given us throughout the years. I hope the School continues to grow, remaining a place that nurtures dreams, fosters a love for learning, and creates many beautiful journeys for future generations of #HomeOfTheEagles.
