HOUSE SYSTEM

House
Systems

The House system develops positive interaction among grade levels from Grade 1 through to Grade 12. Students will have the opportunity to gain merit points, both individually and collectively for their House, through various activities and events held at the school. The House System provides the framework for the pastoral care of students, encourages participation in sporting and cultural co-curricular activities, and promotes leadership development.

At PennSchool, students and staffs are assigned to houses randomly. Sometimes the assignment is based on the social and emotional needs of the student and to ensure proper peer mentoring is enhanced with the right balance of students within a house.

Mixing the students from all grades in the house provides more opportunities for students to meet peers with whom they may not otherwise interact. It will also enable our youngest students to feel more relaxed moving up to middle grades and promotes improved relations between our junior and intermediate students.

Students are awarded house points in the following areas: School policy and values, Academic performance, Attendance, Extra-curricular Activities, and inter-House, inter-school, and international competitions. Some of these activities are:

  • Physical activity competitions (Carnivals, Play Days and so on)
  • Organization of Sports Events (Soccer, Volleyball, baseball and so on)
  • Participation in before and after school physical activities
  • Community outreach programs and charities (fundraising, environment protecting, and so on)
  • Contribution to school events (spirit days, fundraisers, and so on)
  • Competitions (i.e., organize school events, initiatives, and so on)

Each month, the highest achieving students from each house will become the ‘Star of the month’ and appear on the school notice board. A certificate will be presented to the student for their achievement during our school assemblies.

The culmination is the tallying of all house merit points in an effort for the house with the most points being awarded “The House Cup”.
