Letter from the Board of Principals

November at PennSchool has been a month where the essence of Leadership was not just discussed, but vividly brought to life through various activities and events. As I reflect on this month’s journey, I am filled with pride seeing our students embrace and exhibit true leadership qualities.

Leadership at PennSchool is about inspiring positive change, taking responsibility, and empowering others. It’s a value we deeply cherish and strive to embed in every facet of our school life. This month, the spirit of leadership was showcased in several initiatives:

House Captain & Vice Captain Elections: Witnessing our students step up, campaign, and take on leadership roles was a testament to their confidence and dedication. The elections were not just about winning but more about learning the responsibilities that come with being a leader.

Student Council Elections: These elections further emphasized the democratic process and the importance of student voice. Our elected council members are getting ready to lead, represent their peers, and make impactful decisions as they get to collaborate with the Board of Principals to help make PennSchool a student-centered learning establishment.

Recycling Competition: Led by one of our clubs, The Cuckoo Cleanup Group, this initiative brought together several international schools for a noble cause. The competition, intertwined with the Psychology department’s moral lessons on litter, was a practical demonstration of leadership in environmental stewardship.

TEDxYouth@PennSchool Event Kick-Off: This event marks the beginning of what promises to be a platform for our students to express innovative ideas and lead conversations on various topics. It’s an opportunity for them to showcase leadership in thought and creativity.

Apart from these leadership-centric events, November was also marked by enriching experiences like the field trips to the Cu Chi tunnels. These trips provided our students with historical insights and a deeper understanding of resilience and leadership in different contexts. Our Giving-Thanks Day celebration instilled a sense of gratitude and community awareness, essential components of empathetic leadership. The event is also an opportunity for students to integrate into Western culture, aiming to become active global citizens.

Moreover, we celebrated Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, a time when we express our gratitude and respect for our educators. Our teachers are the guiding force behind the emerging leaders at PennSchool, shaping and inspiring them every day.

In conclusion, leadership is not just about being in charge, but about nurturing others, standing up for what’s right, and leaving a positive impact. As we move forward, I am eager to witness how our students will continue to grow as leaders, making a difference in their communities and beyond. Here’s to nurturing the next generation of leaders at PennSchool.

Warm regards,
Mr. Tim Nelson – AP Principal
