An unique Mid-Autumn festival at PennSchool

Every year on the full moon in August, students at PennSchool are eager to celebrate the Mid-Autumn season. However, the “full moon festival” of this year is very different.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is always one of the most anticipated holidays of the year, especially for students. On this occasion, Eagles have the opportunity to play with interesting games, receive special gifts such as lanterns or masks, and enjoy tasty mooncakes with family. “Dive” into the legend of the banyan tree as well as participate in the colorful lantern parade.

However, due to the pandemic, this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival took place in a very different form. We will welcome the Mid-Autumn Festival together through online platforms. There were no lantern parades around campus, or gatherings to make mooncakes. However, with the spirit “social distancing without distance”, the Mid-Autumn Festival was very magical at House of Eagles.

This was the first year that the Eagles have celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival at home. Even though the activities were limited, due to the pandemic, the exciting atmosphere of this festival at PennSchool was not reduced. Students learned about the meaning and beauty of this year’s special festival through activities; created their own unique products to enjoy the moon with families such as lovely lanterns, or to learn new mooncakes recipes.

Despite the difficulties, PennSchool hopes that special activities during this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival were opportunities for Eagles and families to fully enjoy warm and meaningful moments together, as well as sharing the sweet “flavors” in this traditional festival.
